Cannon fire in tribute of GCE’s 20th anniversary at Peter and Paul Fortress

18.11.2014

Guests and representatives of GCE Group participated in a ceremony of Honor Guard mounting at Peter and Paul Fortress, St.Petersburg. After that, they fired a cannon at Naryshkin Bastion.

Reference:

Tradition of mid-day cannon fire at Naryshkin Bastion of Peter and Paul Fortress is originated from Peter the Great period. That time, fortress guns gave a signal for start or completion of work and water lifting in the Neva. Later, guns and cannon fire marked the most important events which happened in Russia.

After revolution of 1917, cannon shots were start signals of parades, mourning ceremonies or coming floods.

It was decided to renew traditional mid-day cannon fire during preparation to 250th anniversary of St.Petersburg.

Presently, possibility to fire a cannon at mid-day at Peter and Paul Fortress is provided to honorary citizens or guests of St.Petersburg.
